Bodegas Martín Códax is located in the historical town of Cambados, in the heart of the Salnés Valley, cradle of Albariño wine.

Its name, Martín Códax, refers to the most renamed poet and troubadour of the Mid-Age in Galicia, author of the first document containing both music and lyrics, called Vindel Pergamin. Those beautiful compositions were dedicated to friendship, true love and the charm of the Galician seashore, the Atlantic Ocean.

April 1985. That is the date when the winery was founded. The progressive growth of the winery is based in the selection of member’s new plots, growing in plots property of the winery and the establishment of long terms agreements with independent producers chosen by the quality of their grapes.

This development plan has allowed Bodegas Martín Códax to control near 450 Ha of high quality Albariño growing plots, something impossible a few years ago, and being able to guaranty buying grapes to more than 550 families in the Salnés Valley.

But this development of the Company has not been based just in production improvement. The key factor for this success has been definitely uphold by a highly qualify human resources, a determinate market approach and a strong bet for innovation.

Particularly, the interest show in innovation has crystallized in many different research projects and collaborations with Universities and scientific Institutions. Bodegas Martín Códax is a pioneer in research about the way of training vines and application of the most modern elaboration techniques, always paying attention to the winemaking tradition and looking after the environment. At present Martín Códax’s technical team has set out a 13 ha research plot for this purpose.

Together with Martín Códax Albariño, a wine that keeps the purest and traditional flavours of the wines produced in the Salnés Valley as they have been made for ages, among the range of products of the winery it can be found Burgáns, a modern and stylish Albariño plenty of flavour and taste, Organistrum a really elegant and sophisticated albariño that has been partially fermented in French oak barrels from Allier, Martín Códax Lías, a modern wine that combines tradition and technology since its aging on its fine lees allows the wine to have its unique silkiness and volume in mouth together with the perfect roundness and balance.

Finally, Martín Códax Gallaecia the first Albariño Late Harvest in the history. So, what started 25 years ago as a challenge has become a reality supported by the presence in more than 40 countries, positioning Bodegas Martín Códax as a referent of Galician wines inside and outside our frontiers.
