Centro de Interpretación da Natureza (Nature Interpretation Centre)

Category: Museums   |   Zone: Val do Salnés

El Centro de Interpretación da Natureza forma parte de la herencia patrimonial natural y antropológica del ayuntamiento de Ribadumia, ayuntamiento que destaca por impulsar la recuperación de su patrimonio cultural y sobre todo de sus áreas naturales.

The place where the Interpretation Centre is located was called “O Campo do Río” (the field by the river) because it used to be a bathing place for the people from the council to go.

In the past, this Interpretation Centre was used as a shelter for the fishermen and that is the reason why it was colloquially called Casa do Pescador (Fisherman House). There were three rooms in it, the main one with a chimney and two smaller ones, a kitchen and a toilet.

The Nature Interpretation Centre is located in a meaningful landscape surroundings, as it is just by the shore of River Umia, having a great environmental value because it keeps a forest of ash trees and alders in a good state of conservation.

It is a two-storey square ground plan building of 50 m2. The Interpretation Centre is located on the second floor. The lower floor makes use of a natural terrace with a space open in three of its sides, with arches facing the river, as it is built on the place most likely to be flooded by the River Umia. These arches allowed the water to run freely under the second floor.

The theme this Centre deals with all the things related to the nature and the culture of the environment where it is located, such as:
- Nature and landscape.
- The cycle of water.
- Vegetation.
- Species.
- The relation of man to the river: fishing and its fishing nets.
