Ruínas de Santa Mariña Dozo

Category: Monuments   |   Zone: Val do Salnés

Santa Mariña church ruins are located at the skirt of the Monte de A Pastora, in Cambados outskirts, and they represent one of the most emblematic monuments in the Salnés County. Dona María de Ulloa fostered its construction and it was done on her father - s former building on what it used to be the site of an old Romanesque chapel.

The ruins belong to an old parish church (Santa Mariña, patron saint of Cambados) that was abandoned in the middle of the 19th century and its remains (it lacks ceiling and façade) were declared National Tourist Interest Monument in 1943. The church had a single nave that was divided in five sections by semicircular arches that were decorated with balls and supported the wooden ceiling. They had different representations on them such as sloth on the third arch symbolized by the image of a man with his head between his legs, or the representation of San Miguel with the devil at his feet on the scallop next to the epistle. The apse is covered with a rib vault.

The side chapels are interesting and the third on next to the evangel must be highlighted with its relieves related to the Virgin Annunciation.

Localition: It is located in A Pastora in Santa Mariña, Cambados Council.
