Torre de San Sadorniño
It used to be called the Torre da Figueira. It is located in a small triangle-shaped island with an approximate surface of 80 m x 50 m and some 2-3 metres high over the sea level. The crumbled remains of this tower are in the seaside village of Santo Tomé do Mar.
Its first function was that of a lighthouse and a watchtower due to the raids of the foreign ships trying to assault Santiago de Compostela going up the River Ulla, which is navigable up to Padrón. Its owners were the Soutomaiors (Lords of Santo Tomé and Portonovo), and it was marshal D. Suero Gómez de Soutomaior who restored it after the cruel attacks suffered during the Irmandiños revolt. It was in good conditions until the 18th century when it was abandoned and it started to crumble. There was a chapel next to the tower but there is nothing left. It was devoted to Virgin Mary and there were images of Santo Tomé and San Sadorniño, which are kept in the chapel of Valvanera.
Localition: The tower is located in the island opposite Santo Tomé neighbourhood. It is linked to it by means of a pedestrian bridge built in the 90`s.
